The council is currently advertising proposals to create additional double yellow lines at the junction of Sackville Road and Whitefield Terrace. This is not at our instigation but has come about from a request from Stagecoach due to the difficulties of the number 1 bus in making this turn – particularly when two buses cross here.
We are conscious residents have concerns about the loss of parking in front of their homes and we are aware it is a tricky issue to balance the interests of residents and the bus drivers – there is no ideal solution. We are mindful this is also something of an issue at the Danby Gardens junctions with Sackville Road and Debdon Gardens.
Residents have formed a Facebook group to discuss the issue and seek local views in order to make representations to the council – search Yellow Lines Heaton Sackville Danby Debdon.
Residents can submit comments to the council – email traffic.notices@newcastle.gov.uk quoting ref GH/P44/1107 by April 6th. If objections are received the proposal will be considered by a “traffic appeals panel” hearing at which objectors and supporters can attend and a representative from each side can speak.
