Telecare offers a much needed phone and personal alarm lifeline for elderly and disabled residents, with different levels of cover according to needs. The service has been operated for council tenants by YHN, but unfortunately the Labour council is now removing funding for it. However, a new service open to all residents called Astara will begin soon at a cost of £3-£8 a week depending on cover.
