UN Gift Box

Get an education and a better futureDoreen is a member of Soroptimist International and has served as President of the Newcastle Branch. SI work to inspire action and create opportunities to transform the lives of women and girls through a global network of members and international partnerships. We raise funds for a variety of charities at home and abroad and have a particular interest in schemes to help disadvantaged groups e.g we recently gave support to Under the Bridge in Byker, Safer Birthing in Ghana, Mental Health Matters and a school project for girls in Kathmandu.  One of the projects we support is the UN Gift Box, a display designed to develop awareness of the problems of human trafficking and modern day slavery. Along with sister branches from the North East in March 2016 we brought this display to the Central Library in Newcastle, where it generated quite a bit of interest in visitors to the Library. Members were kept busy giving out leaflets and talking to the pubic. Doreen is pictured with part of the display outlining the benefits of getting an education.
