North Heaton News In Brief

Work will start in the summer on the new extension to the People’s Theatre. We had a useful presentation from the Theatre at the recent ward meeting and have asked for close communication with neighbours on Holderness Rd & Beatrice Rd whilst work goes on…
We’re pleased to see improvement work being carried out on the Chillingham Rd roundabout subways…
We’re concerned about the recent decision to overturn the refusal of planning permission for an additional  house on an existing plot at Melbury Rd at appeal by an unelected Planning Inspector – we are greatly concerned about the increasing threat to the Jesmond Dene Conservation Area by a number of major house conversions, removal of trees, and “garden grabbing” and regret the Inspector paid so little regard to the local policy…
An application has been submitted to replace telecom masts alongside the railway line at Rothbury Terrace – as these are replacements rather than new, we don’t think we have grounds to object to them…
Gully-cleaners have been out on the North Heaton bungalows area clearing drains from the winter build up of leaves and debris. If you know of any blocked drains near you, get in touch and let us know locations and we’ll ask for them to be done. We’ve also reported potholes at Danby Gardens for repair and a number of faded street signs for attention.
Still no start on the Motor World site – we’re chasing up with Planning.
We’ve pretty much spent up the North Heaton ward budget for this year with contributions towards the new play equipment in Iris Brickfield Park and grants to local projects including a barn dance social event for a High Heaton residents group, craft activities for older residents at Woodlands, and a small grant to CRIB volunteers who are helping to maintain the planters on Chillingham Road.
